An elderly couple were beaten in their own home during a terrifying early-morning burglary in Co Donegal.
The horrifying incident happened in the Coolboy area of Letterkenny at around 7am on Sunday.
Two pensioners were allegedly assaulted by a female who entered the house.
Officers said that the woman took cash and several other items from the property before fleeing the scene.
The man and woman were then rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital.
Their injuries were not life threatening, and they have since been discharged.
Gardai said that no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
A spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 14, at a house at Coolboy, Letterkenny, County Donegal.
"At approximately 7am, it's reported a female entered the property and assaulted an elderly man and woman.
"A sum of cash and a number of other items were taken and the female fled the scene.
"The man and woman were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and have since been released.
"No arrests have been made to date. Investigations are ongoing."
