Residents and family members of older residents living in Clontarf are being warned to keep vigilant of alleged conmen targeting vulnerable locals.
They are believed to approach the home by offering to clean a driveway with a power washer and seeking payment afterward.
But once the work is done, they are understood to be demanding hundreds of euro in payment for the work.
Local group LoveClontarf posted a warning about the activity and said they are operating in two vans, one of which is plain white.
It warns: "There is currently (now) a gang of four men operating in the Clontarf area targeting older residents.
"Their modus operandi is to clean a driveway with a power washer and then seek payment afterwards. And it's usually a sizeable amount not proportionate to the work done.
"Two local businessmen intercepted them on Hollybrook Road and stopped a transaction being completed, saving an elderly resident €200.
"They then moved on but could still be in the area. They have two separate vans. One is plain white. The local Gardai have been informed and are also patrolling the area.
"If you have older relatives not on Facebook, please call them to warn them.
"They should call the Gardai if they see anyone in their driveway doing work like this."
