An elderly Canadian tutor has been arrested in Prachuap Khiri Khan for the alleged rape of a teenage student during private maths tuition at her home in Nakhon Ratchasima last year.
James Inkster, 68, was apprehended in Prachuap Khiri Khan on Sunday, Pol Col Korkiat Wuthichamnong, superintendent of the Anti Trafficking in Persons Division, said on Monday.
He said the suspect told officers he had problems with his girlfriend and had decided to stay with a friend in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Pol Lt Gen Nathasak Chaonasai, chief of the Central Investigation Bureau, said Mr Inkster is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at her home in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima in October last year.
The Canadian was an assistant principal at an international school near Khao Yai in Nakhon Ratchasima. The girl’s parents had hired him to privately tutor their daughter in mathematics at their home twice a week for the last three years.
On Oct 20, 2025, while the parents were away he had asked the teenager to show him her bedroom. There he allegedly raped the girl.
During the arrest, police found many pornographic video clips and photographs stored on the suspect’s mobile phone.
According to police, Mr Inkster had been arrested previously on the rape allegation and released on bail. He had then gradually sold off his assets, including gold, before fleeing Nakhon Ratchasima for Prachuap Khiri Khan.
