Elderly and ill cat pelted with egg in sickening attack by teenage boy

An elderly and ill cat was pelted with an egg in a sickening attack by a teenage boy.

In upsetting footage, caught on the pet owner's CCTV, a boy can be seen getting off his bike and walking across the family's front garden.

The boy can be seen with his hand outstretched seemingly to entice the cat towards him from where it was lying down near the doorstep.

Once he has got close enough to the cat, he raises his other hand and pelts an egg at the cat at close range (handout)

However after getting close to the defenceless cat, who is 14-years-old, the thug raises his other arm and launches an egg at the frightened pet.

CCTV then shows him running back to his bike and fleeing with another boy - who has watched the incident from the street.

Today the cat's heartbroken owner, who did not want to be named, told the ECHO through tears her devastation at what has happened.

The mum-of-two said the cat, whose name is Duncan, is due to be put down today after suffering with a number of health problems.

She said: "The worst part of it is he is getting put down today because he is not well and the fact that this has happened to him the day before.

"I am just devastated.

"You can see in the video there is a cat bed on the front and that is because he goes out at 7am and he sits there waiting for the kids to come home from school.

"He loves sitting out there.

"People are always coming up and stroking him and that is why he doesn't move, he probably thought that is what the kid was going to do.

"I am just so angry and upset that this has happened."

Following the attack, which happened at around 8pm on Thursday, the 30-year-old put a video of what had happened on Facebook .

And since sharing it online she said she has received messages as to who the youngsters are.

The mum, from Norris Green , said: "We have a neighbourhood watch and I have been told by others that they have seen them tipping over other people's wheelie bins and smashing glass bottles in the street.

"I am not a person who goes on Facebook and rants. Never in my life do I put stuff on there I just like it for the happy reasons.

"But I am just absolutely fuming about what has happened.

14-year-old Duncan "loves sitting outside" said his owner who has a bed for him on the front garden and people often come up and stroke him (handout)

"We had put off having Duncan put down because my little girl was leaving secondary school and she was already upset she would be missing her friends, so we hoped he would get better.

"But he hasn't so we had him booked in today to be put down.

"It it just horrible that this has happened to him."

The owner, who said she "loves animals" and has another cat and two dogs said she is planning to report the incident to the police and RSPCA.

To contact the RSPCA call 0300 1234 999 or to report an none emergency incident to police contact 101.
