El Perro Negro and The Gannet team up to create limited-edition burger for charity

Two of Glasgow's best restaurants have teamed up to create a burger to help people working in the hospitality industry in need of support.

El Perro Negro x The Gannet have created a limited-edition South Indian Fish Sandwich containing a not-so-secret ingredient - seaweed - to raise money for charity.

The burger will feature Goan-style battered hake, curry leaf and fresh turmeric pickled slaw, West Coast Crab and coriander mayonnaise infused with a zesty seaweed flake dust and will be served in a demi-brioche burger bun.

All profits from the special will be donated to Hospitality Health, a charity formed in 2018 to support the mental wellbeing of hospitality staff.

The limited-edition burger will be available by collection only at El Perro Negro on Woodlands Road from 12pm to 3pm this Sunday, April 18.

Nick Watkins, one of the owners of El Perro Negro, said: “We have been in business a while now and saw this as an opportunity to collaborate more closely, while also donating to a great cause.”

“Scotland is internationally renowned for its seafood and with The Gannet’s fine dining techniques we’ve made something really fun and exciting to try.”

“As we begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel, and we prepare to reopen our doors to customers, we want to make sure we are doing our bit to help people who need support.”

“I hope curiosity will mean foodies line up to see what we have created.”

Gordon McIntyre, Founder of Hospitality Health added: “What an amazing initiative by the Team at the Gannet and El Perro Negro. The South Indian Fish Sandwich is a great idea and sure to be a winner!”

“Glasgow loves El Perro burgers and they will be queuing up for this one I am sure. We are delighted to have been selected as the charity partner.”

“The cash donated will be used to fund places on Mental Health First Aid courses for staff in the industry, as well as allowing us to add to resources on the website, www.hospitalityhealth.org.uk."
