This is the shocking moment armed police stormed a shopping mall in Texas as a gunman went on a rampage killing 20 people.
A further 26 people were injured in the shooting inside a Walmart store in El Paso, believed to be the eighth most deadly in modern US history.
Video footage from inside a shop in the Cielo Vista Mall, near the Walmart, shows armed police running through the building as gun shots rang out at about 11am local time on Saturday morning.
A 21-year-old man, named by US media as Patrick Crusius, is in police custody. Police said he is from the city of Allen, near Dallas.
The mass shopping area was packed with as many as 3,000 people during the busy back-to-school season when the gunman opened fired.
CCTV stills said to be of the shooter show a man in a black t-shirt with khaki coloured trousers entering a shop carrying a rifle and wearing ear defenders.
The shooting came less than a week after a 19-year-old gunman killed three people and injured 13 others at the popular garlic festival in California.
El Paso police chief Greg Allen many of the 26 people who were hurt had life-threatening injuries. "The scene was a horrific one," he said.
