El Hadji Diouf reignites Steven Gerrard feud as former Rangers striker mocks Ibrox boss

El-Hadji Diouf has taken a fresh swipe at Steven Gerrard and claims he couldn't publicly repeat past comments allegedly made about him by the Rangers boss.

The pair played together at Liverpool and the former Senegal international has made previous, unsubstantiated claims Gerrard "has never liked black people".

The claims were strongly denied by Gerrard's lawyers, with Diouf's attack coming in response to an extract from the Kop icon's autobiography where he admitted he had little respect for his team-mate due to his attitude and professionalism.

And now the striker, who spent a short time at Ibrox in 2011, has reignited the feud as he aimed a jibe at Gerrard over his international achievements with England.

"When people say I don't like Gerrard, I laugh, because if I tell you the things he used to say about me to the guys, you wouldn't be able to write it," Diouf told FourFourTwo .

"For me, it's all in the past, but I'm not a hypocrite - I know they don't like me, so I also don't like them.

"Look, I say this and they get offended but let's be honest: Gerrard has won nothing for his country.

"I took my country to the World Cup, and that singular act cannot be quantified.

"I'm happy for my boy, Sadio (Mane), and I'm happy Liverpool is going well now, but on a personal level I'd rather I hadn't played there."

Diouf also insists Liverpool bottled the chance to end their Premier League drought against Manchester City last season.

Jurgen Klopp's side were pipped by a single point on the final day of the season and Diouf believes they'll struggle to compete again, despite sitting top of the Premier League this term.

He added: "I don’t see them doing as well as they did last season.

“They had the chance to win the league title; they had it in their hands and then let it slip.

“They were seven points ahead around Christmas – how Manchester City got it in the end beats my mind. As they say in England, I think they bottled it.

“If you have only one defeat in a whole season, surely you can’t say that you didn’t win the league – so it’s hard for me to imagine them having such a similar season and coming out as champions.

"Manchester City will be the team to beat once again.”
