El Clasico boost for Real Madrid as they confirm severity of Eden Hazard injury

Real Madrid have been handed a boost over the fitness of Eden Hazard after the forward hobbled out of Tuesdays' draw with PSG.

The former Chelsea man was substituted not long after the hour mark in the Champions League Group A clash at the Santiago Bernabeu, following a tackle from PSG's Thomas Meunier.

Madrid have just over three weeks to go until the frist El Clasico fixture of the season against rivals Barcelona , with Hazard set to play a key part.

But there were fears he could miss the tie after boss Zinedine Zidane expressed his fears over the injury at the final whistle.

“There is a little worry over Hazard at full time,” admitted Zidane.

“He was in pain at full time, and we think it is more than an impact injury.

“It is a sprained ankle, but hopefully not a severe sprain. We will know more in the coming days.”

Whilst a sprained ankle can take relatively little time to return to match fitness from, they can often be an ongoing issue, as Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has found out of late.

However Madrid have provided an update on the Belgian's fitness, and it seems Hazard should make a speedy recovery.

A statement on the club's website read: "After the tests performed on our player Eden Hazard by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an external perimalleolar contusion (bruise) on his right leg."

Hazard is now likely to be fit for the El Clasico, and could well be fine to face Alaves in the league on Saturday.

Real and Barcelona are currently neck and neck after 13 games in La Liga on 28 points, with Sevilla close behind on 27 but having played a game more.

The top two will meet for the first time this season just a week before Christmas on December 18 at Barca's Nou Camp.
