EKU women's basketball team prepares to take the floor in coach's sophomore season

The Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team opens season play Monday night in Richmond. The team’s led by a coach with more than three decades of experience.

“This is my 31st year as a head coach and I couldn’t be more excited to start a new campaign,” said Todd.

For Head Coach Greg Todd it’s season two for the EKU alumnus and Madison County native. Todd admits the transfer portal with players moving from school to school and name, image, and likeness player compensation are changing the game.

“Recruiting’s obviously more competitive than it’s ever been, especially with NIL money that is out there,” said Todd.

Todd says his team lacks size. But in his eighth year in Division one, he says it’s the best shooting team he’s coached. One of the transfers is Mari Walker who came from Marquette.

“We do things during practice that we’re going to see in March, everybody knows March madness, so we just try to practice that grit that dog mentality every day,” said Walker.

EKU takes on Evansville Monday night at 5:00.
