EK v Ayr United: Kilby will look to impose themselves in clash after Irvine Meadow rout

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy was full of praise for his players after they hit Irvine Meadow for six on Saturday and passed them off the park to net a fine team goal in the rout.

Kilby ran out 6-1 winners at Meadow Park as new striker Ally Roy climbed off the bench to net a hat-trick, while Johnny Lyon, Kier Samson and skipper Liam Brown were also on target against the West of Scotland Premier Division side.

A move involving a string of 27 passes before netted was a big highlight as well and Kennedy was suitably impressed by his squad's showing, with the big kick-off in the Lowland League less than two weeks away.

He said: "I have been in that West of Scotland League for a few years [with former club Darvel] and Irvine is a difficult place to go, so I'm really pleased with how the game went.

"It was more so the performance, rather than the result, that pleased me. We dominated the whole game and it could have been more than six."

On the impressive team goal, he said: "Anyone who has watched my previous teams, even in Amateur football, would say my teams are known for being quite fluid and playing expansive football.

"It's what I've done at Darvel and Colville Park and it is what I will do at East Kilbride.

"It has been successful to date but the serious stuff starts in a couple of weeks and it is important we carry that level of performance into the league games.

"It is a bit different for the boys, but they have picked it up very quickly and we are really pleased."

The biggest test of pre-season awaits Kennedy's men tonight when they play host to Championship Ayr United.

And it is a challenge the gaffer is relishing to see just how far his side have come in a short time.

He said: "I played Ayr last season with Darvel and although we dominated parts of the game, they beat us 2-0 or 3-0 so it will be interesting to see how this team fares.

"Ayr had a really good campaign last season. I know they will be disappointed they didn't go up to the Premiership but they will be a significant test.

"It's a game we are really looking forward to because nothing will change in terms of our style and preparation, so it will be interesting to see how much we are able to impose our game on them."

Kick-off at K-Park tonight is 7.30pm.
