A dad, his partner and his son were all injured during a disturbance at their East Kilbride home.
Brian Newman had attacked son Scott who’d been wakened by his drunken singing.
The younger Newman hit back at his dad while Newman senior’s partner Elaine Rankin suffered a burst lip after she intervened.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard she dialled 999 and police arrived to find father and son covered in blood, with pools of blood on the driveway and stains on the front door.
Newman senior, 51, admitted assaulting Scott, 20, and Ms Rankin at the house in Sandalwood Avenue on November 13.
The court was told he had been drinking and his singing wakened the others at 2am.
Scott went downstairs and asked his dad to be quiet, but an argument started and Newman followed his son outside before jumping on him and knocking him to the ground.
He punched his son repeatedly on the face then straddled and throttled him.
Scott fought back and Ms Rankin pulled Newman senior off him.
The furious dad then smacked her on the face, bursting her lip.
Both men were taken to hospital.
Scott’s face was cut and swollen while his dad needed a wound above his eye glued.
Defence agent Ian Scott said dad and son have a “fractious” relationship, not helped by the fact they are both out of work at present.
The lawyer added: “My client is a hard-working man who was previously a supervisor on an oil rig.”
Sheriff Ray Small called for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.
Sentence was deferred until December 21 and Newman was allowed bail on condition he does not have contact with his son.
