'EK is Green and white' claim as supporters hang Japanese flags ahead of today's Old Firm game

An act of solidarity in the face of alleged racism has been made in East Kilbride ahead of today’s Old Firm game.

A number of Japanese flags, some graffiti, and a banner were placed on an overhead walkway in the town’s Westwood area.

It comes a week after alleged racist videos were filmed aboard a Westwood RSC bus travelling to Dingwall, that then circulated on social media. The videos appeared to show slurs aimed at Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi.

Police Scotland confirmed on Friday that two men - aged 30 and 26 - had been arrested in connection with allegations.

In the fallout from the activity, Rangers FC banned the supporters’ club from receiving tickets for future fixtures after an investigation.

The club also said the individuals embroiled in the allegations would be “banned indefinitely”.

Appearing on social media this morning, pictures from east Kilbride show a green banner denouncing the supporters club involved, referring to it as the ‘Westwood Racist Supporters Club’.

It sits alongside six Japanese flags, with ‘F**k racists’ scrawled on a wall underneath the bridge also visible. Japanese flags also appeared on another bridge above the town's dual carriageway.

A post on the East Kilbride Discuss page read: “People taking a stand against racism.

“Remember Rangers fans to behave yourself today. Racism has no place, not just in football, but society too.

“So just keep your 500 year old knuckle dragging mentality to yourselves.

“Scotland is a diverse nation with all nationality’s merging together to form a great culture. Try and be better people, don’t let your horrific views or beliefs surface, ever.

“It’s not normal, it’s draconian....enjoy the game from your living room.

“EK is green and white.”

Celtic head to Ibrox to play the first Old Firm game of the season today, with kick off at 12pm.

Both teams have six points and sit fifth and sixth in the league, with Celtic ahead of their rivals on goal difference.
