EK drug dealer jailed for six months after being caught with haul in his house

A man caught with cocaine worth £5000 at his East Kilbride home has been jailed for six months.

Dean King, 26, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug in Mallard Crescent in October last year.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said police officers armed with a search warrant forced entry to the property.

They found a number of small bags containing white powder, and three sets of scales.

There were also empty small bags that appeared to be used as packaging for white powder.

A bedroom was also searched and another five small bags containing white powder were recovered.

The total value of the cocaine seized was £5000.

Drink-driver will find out his fate next month

King also admitted driving while disqualified in Juniper Avenue, East Kilbride, on July 26 last year.

His not guilty plea to a charge of having cocaine with intent to supply others on that occasion was accepted.

The Vauxhall Corsa he was driving was bearing false number plates.

King’s lawyer said he has been in custody awaiting court proceedings for the last year.

She added: “During that period he has been ‘clean’.

“It’s the first time he has been able to stay off drugs since he was 16.”

Sheriff Thomas Millar said that King had provided an explanation for his involvement in the drugs offence.

The sheriff told him: “That does not absolve you and a custodial sentence will be imposed.”

King was ordered to serve another six months and was banned from driving for four years.
