EK business aims to donate 700 Christmas boxes to the elderly and vulnerable this year

An East Kilbride company is on a mission to donate 700 Christmas boxes to the elderly and vulnerable – and it’s looking for the community’s help.

Document Solutions Northern Ltd, based in Peel Park, make donations every year as part of its charitable work.

But with COVID hitting those most vulnerable the hardest they want to make this year’s appeal even more special.

They are working with South Lanarkshire Council’s home care services who will distribute the boxes to those who need it the most.

But they need the support of the community to meet their target for extra boxes.

Dawn Kondol director of HR and strategic development at Document solutions told the News : “At DS Business Solutions supporting our community and making charitable contributions is important to us all and with Christmas coming we had a team meeting to brainstorm what we could do to give back to our local community this Christmas.

“Our Graphic Designer highlighted that one of the most affected groups is the elderly and vulnerable and she suggested that we focus our attention on them this year.

“We all agreed and recognise that COVID-19 has been tough on all of us in 2020, but in particular, the elderly and vulnerable have been directly impacted in more ways than most due to shielding and social isolation.

“Knowing there are elderly residents who will not receive a gift or be able to spend time with their loved ones this Christmas is heart breaking and we want to remind them that we care.

“We are seeking the support of our local community to help us bring some festive cheer to hundreds of elderly and vulnerable individuals this Christmas. We want to give them something to smile about on Christmas day.”

Dawn added: “Our budget enables DS Business Solutions to donate 150 Christmas gift packages however, when we contacted South Lanarkshire Council homes care services and they advised us that there are over 700 individuals who fall within the elderly and vulnerable category in East Kilbride, we wanted to do more to make sure as many of these individuals as possible will receive a gift this Christmas.

“Loneliness and social isolation have negatively affected our elderly and vulnerable residents and many of them will stay silent due to pride.

“We want to bring a bit of festive cheer to those who need it most in our local community and by gifting these Christmas boxes to as many elderly and vulnerable residents as possible, we want to give the gift of kindness.

“We’d be delighted if our local EK community could help us to make a real difference this Christmas!

“We are grateful to everyone who would be willing to support us and help us reach our target of £5500 to provide 700 Christmas packages and give the gift of kindness.”
