Eir is set to increase its broadband and phone prices by €72 a year.
The company confirmed the news to the Irish Mirror this afternoon, saying that a multiplication in the inflation rate means that some customers will see an increase of €6 added to their monthly bill.
The company said: “From September, some Eir broadband and voice customers will see plans increase by €6 a month, the first price increase in four years.”
Around two million people are customers with Eir, but not all of them will be affected.
The hike in prices will not affect customers who are on the Gigabit Fibre Broadband and those whose bundle includes the new fibre broadband offering.
However, the price rise will affect customers who are on an Eir promotional deal. Those customers will see their promotional discount applied to their new monthly price for the rest of the promotional period.
The price rise had been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but will now come into effect on September 1.
The 8% rise in inflation rate is said to benefit Eir to further invest in essential infrastructure.

A spokesperson for Eir continued: “Eir is investing €1bn to transform Ireland’s telecoms networks to ensure it has the capacity to meet the needs of the people of Ireland, today and into the future.”
Meanwhile, Electric Ireland has announced that it will be increasing the price of its residential electricity and gas.
In terms of electricity, the price will be going up by 9%, which equates to €8.20 per month on the average bill.
As for the price of gas, a 7.8% increase will be introduced, which comes to an additional €4.98 per month on the average.
The company has said that these increases are due to an increase in wholesale energy costs and the changes come into effect from August 1.
