Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham LIVE
Tottenham forgot their domestic woes to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds with a comfortable 2-0 victory at already-eliminated Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday. Randal Kolo Muani put the London club ahead just after half-time from close range andDominic Solanke sealed the win when he drove in his side's second in the 77th minute.
The win completed an impressive group campaign for Thomas Frank's side who ended with 17 points from their eight games despite languishing 14th in the Premier League. Injury-depleted Spurs dominated their Bundesliga opponents with Xavi Simons having an early goal ruled out for offside while Wilson Odobert was denied bthe woodwork.
Once Spurs went ahead they did not look back, and could have won by a bigger margin against a particularly flat Frankfurt side. They finish fourth in the League Pahse, which means that the second leg of their last-16 tie - and the quarter-final should they get there - will be at home.

Sam Tabuteau reports
21:08 , Alex YoungThat is just the start Spurs needed and it is no surprise to see that Cristian Romero is involved again as he nods the ball across for Kolo Muani to bundle home.
It is also a massive goal for Kolo Muani, who has been linked with a move back to Juventus before the end of the transfer window.

GOALLLLLLLLL!
21:05 , Alex Young47min: Dream start to the second half as Kolo Muani bundles it home after a Romero knock back!
Second half!
21:04 , Alex Young46min: Back underway. No changes.
Spurs are sixth in the standings ahead of the second halves.
Frank’s message to Spurs are half-time will be to just keep going. They’ve been on top.
I just watched the disallowed goal back, and Spurs have every right to be extremely miffed - to put it lightly.
Sam Tabuteau reports
20:52 , Alex YoungFrankfurt have hardly had a sniff this half, but they so nearly take the lead as Larsson's shot hits the crossbar.
A warning sign for Spurs and one they did not heed against Burnley at the weekend.

Half-time

Sam Tabuteau reports
20:31 , Alex YoungThat deserved a goal from Odobert.
In those central positions, Odobert is really dangerous and he nearly made Frankfurt pay. Simons then goes close as well. Spurs pushing.
OFF THE POST!
20:31 , Alex Young29min: Spurs are getting closer!

They are currently down in ninth, with only the top eight automatically qualifying for the knockouts. Long way to go.

Frankfurt 0-0 Tottenham
20:16 , Alex YoungKevin Danso doing his best Micky van de Ven impression with a marauding run forward. It comes to nothing, but Spurs look confident and settled here.
They just need a bit more attacking impetus.

Spence getting forward from right-back. Kolo Muani looks lively.
Sam Tabuteau reports
20:07 , Alex YoungAnother fast start from Tottenham, but failing to capitalise on these promising openings has been an issue for Spurs and one they must overcome.
NO GOAL!
20:06 , Alex Young2min: Almost a dream start for Spurs as Simons fires home, but the goal is chalked off for a foul by Kolo Muani.
Looked soft!
Sam Tabuteau reports
20:03 , Alex YoungOne thing to note is that Randal Kolo Muani is one booking away from suspension. The French forward has been out of favour under Frank, but Spurs are not in a position to lose any more players.
Kick-off!
20:00 , Alex Young1min: Here we go!
Kolo Muani giving the Frankfurt coaches a hug before kick-off. He made his name at this club before moving to PSG.
And here come the players.
Not long to go.

Spurs have opened the scoring in their last four Champions League games.
Another fast start tonight will be huge against a Frankfurt team lacking in confidence.
Sam Tabuteau reports
19:32 , Alex YoungCristian Romero is set for his 150th Tottenham appearance.
He has really risen to the occasion recently with some huge goals for Thomas Frank's side. Another captain's performance would not go a miss tonight.
What Tottenham need tonight
19:29 , Alex YoungDefeats for Manchester City, against Bodo/Glimt, Paris Saint-Germain, at Sporting, and Inter Milan, at home to Arsenal, last week have tightened Spurs’ grip on the top eight.
Spurs sit fifth on 14 points heading into the final round of fixtures, but can still be overtaken by PSG, Newcastle, Chelsea, Barcelona, Sporting, Man City, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta and one of Inter or Dortmund.
That said, Spurs do have their top-eight hopes in their own hands when they travel to face Eintracht Frankfurt.
A win will confirm a top-eight finish, while dropped points - be it a draw or defeat in Germany - would leave Spurs looking for favours elsewhere.
The top eight teams in the Champions League’s revamped league phase table will automatically qualify for the knockouts.
Teams from ninth to 24th place will each contest a play-off game to try to secure their place in the knockouts.

It is probably the right decision for Solanke to be benched. He has probably already played more minutes than he should have after returning from injury.
Kolo Muani really needs to put in a shift today, as his recent results have suggested he heart might not be in it. Juventus reportedly want to take him back on loan.

Changes aplenty
19:02 , Alex YoungThomas Frank makes five changes, as Udogie, Gray, Sarr, Palhinha and Kolo Muani all come in.
Solanke is on the only first-team regular on a very youthful bench.
Frankfurt, who are also struggling with injuries, make six changes from their defeat to Hoffenheim.
They are already eliminated and have much bigger fish to fry in the Bundesliga this weekend.

Sam Tabuteau reports
18:59 , Alex YoungIn one way it is a surprise and in another way it is a sensible and obvious decision from Thomas Frank to drop Dominic Solanke to the bench.
Solanke has started Tottenham's last two games after recovering from a recurring ankle injury. His minutes need to be managed, but Spurs can't really afford not to have him in the starting line-up.
Kolo Muani gets an opportunity against his former club.

Nine months ago
18:27 , Alex YoungNine short months ago, Spurs were in Frankfurt needing a victory to reach the Europa League semi-finals.
It was decided by a Dominic Solanke penalty. It was a win which extended Spurs’ run in Europe, and they, of course, went on to win the Europa League.
It also kept under-fire manager Ange Postecoglou in a job as a distraction to Spurs’ miserable Premier League form.
It was one of Spurs’ best display of the whole season. Frank could do with that tonight.

Match odds
18:19 , Alex YoungDespite their domestic troubles, Tottenham are heavy favourites to win tonight.
- Frankfurt:16/5
- Draw: 12/5
- Tottenham: 4/6

Predicted XI
18:12 , Alex YoungWith Spurs missing around 14 players tonight, here is reporter Sam Tabuteau’s attempt at predicting Thomas Frank’s line-up.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Spence, Romero, Danso, Udogie; Palhinha, Gray; Odobert, Simons, Kolo Muani; Solanke
'It’s extremely frustrating'
18:05 , Alex YoungLouis Saha has been speaking about Thomas Frank’s time at Tottenham so far.
"Tottenham are struggling and the style of play looks static, it puts people under pressure. It's sad to see,” he told Grosvenor Casino.
"Looking at the squad, I don't think it's a fantastic one. It hasn't been renewed in the way a club of this size, with these kinds of ambitions, should have done.
"They skipped a few transfer windows and didn't bring in the type of players that could fill the enormous gap left by the departure of Harry Kane.
"Many of those tactical choices haven't helped at all. I don't understand the sacking of Ange in all honesty. It's sad for Spurs. I don't think that was a step forward.
"Now they have a manager, they have to back him. It's easy to be upset when your club isn't doing well. You have to accept your choices sometimes and give the manager time to build something. There are moments when it's extremely frustrating because you're losing money and credibility, but sacking manager after manager doesn't help.”
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham prediction
17:57 , Alex YoungWho knows which Tottenham side will turn up in Germany. A command win over Borussia Dortmund last week came in the middle of two miserable performances in the Premier League, in defeat to West Ham and then snatching a last-gasp draw at Burnley
Spurs clearly do perform better in Europe, and sit in fifth heading into the final round, knowing a fifth win in eight games will secure passage straight into the last-16 stage.
Frankfurt have been eliminated, so have nothing to play for, and fell to a miserable defeat at home to Hoffenheim at the weekend. They have bigger fish to fry in the Bundesliga, having dropped to eighth, which could play into Spurs’ hands.
Frankfurt 2-2 Tottenham

Early Frankfurt team news
17:49 , Alex YoungEintracht Frankfurt will be missing six players tonight, including their two leading scorers.
The German side has confirmed that summer signing Jonathan Burkardt, who registered 11 goals in 15 appearances, remains sidelined after sustaining a calf injury in November.
Fellow attacker Can Uzun, who scored in six of his opening seven matches, was forced off during Saturday’s Bundesliga loss to Hoffenheim.
They are joined on the injury list by Elias Baum, Jessic Ngankam, Younes Ebnoutalib, and former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi absent.
Early Tottenham team news
17:42 , Alex YoungTottenham will be without both Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro tonight.
While it is hoped that the centre-back will be back this weekend, the right-back has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury.
In more positive news, Spurs have been boosted by the returns of Joao Palhinha and Pape Matar Sarr in midfield. With Conor Gallagher and Yves Bissouma ineligible against Frankfurt, Spurs are stretched for options in the centre of the park.
So the sight of Palhinha, who has missed Spurs’ last three games, and Africa Cup of Nations winner Sarr in training on Tuesday will have come as a welcome relief for Frank.
Randal Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert are also be available for selection after travelling to Frankfurt later than planned after a minor car accident.
Radu Dragusin, new £13million signing Souza and Mathys Tel are also ineligible, with Dominic Solanke taking Tel’s place in Spurs’ Champions League squad last week.
James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Bergvall, Ben Davies and Richarlison remain out as Spurs, who have 14 senior players unavailable in total, look to seal automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16.
They travel to Frankfurt knowing that a win will see them avoid a nervy two-legged knockout play-off tie.
