Sebastien Haller is set to undergo a medical with West Ham after an agreement was reached with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Bundesliga side announced the breakthrough on Twitter in a message that confirmed that a deal had been made between the two clubs.
Manuel Pellegrini stands to gain one of the most effective target men in European football who was directly involved in 31 goals in 41 games last season.
He will replace Marko Arnautovic as the main striker while also covering for the niche that Andy Carroll was supposed to fill in the squad if his medical is successful.
As reported by football.london , West Ham moved on to target Haller following the failure to sign Maxi Gomez, and with the squad out in China on their pre-season tour, officials back in London step forward in their discussions with Frankfurt.
In their message, the Bundesliga club said:
"Eintracht and West Ham have agreed on transfer terms regarding Sebastien Haller.
"As a result, Haller has clearance to complete the medical exam in London.
"Should this take a positive course, Haller will join the Hammers."
football.london understand that the deal to sign the Frenchman will include a club-record fee of €45million plus add-ons.
Last season, Haller helped Frankfurt to reach the last four of the Europa League only to lose to Chelsea in the semi-finals.
He formed one of the most highly-regarded striker partnerships in Europe alongside Luka Jovic, who left for Real Madrid earlier this summer.
It is hoped that his build up play and goal threat will not only ensure he is a match-winner for West Ham but also an important figure for bringing out the best in Pellegrini's cast of attacking midfielders and wingers.
