Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed that Jetro Willems has not joined first team training as he closes in on a move to Newcastle United.
The German side took to social media to confirm that Willems was 'free to conduct transfer talks.'
The left-back is in talks over a move to Tyneside , and is likely to follow Nice's Allan Saint-Maximin to the club. He could become Steve Bruce's third summer signing.
It has also now emeged that on Sunday, Willems name-checked Newcastle in a TV interview about his future. He also mentioned Roma but it appears as if Newcastle will be his destination, with the defender nearing a move.
United had been linked with several full-backs including Paris St Germain's Stanley N'Soki and Moussa Sissoko, Philipp Max, and Danny Rose but it appears that Willems will be the one arriving.
He is a name that will be familiar to Newcastle fans, having first been linked with a move to St James' Park back in 2016 and 2017.
