Eight year old West Lothian schoolboy fundraises for Poppy Scotland

An eight-year-old boy from West Lothian has raised £261.50 for charity selling home-made poppies.

Young Max McDougall from Fauldhouse who has autism and hyperacussis has been fundraising for the past two years for Poppy Scotland, and after raising £25 last year he decided to step up his efforts this year and hand-crafted his own poppies.

He took them to his school, Falla Hill Primary, and the dinner ladies and teachers bought a bunch of the uniquely designed poppies. His father plays football for Livingston over 35s so Max took them along to their game with East Fife over 35s and he managed to raise a whopping £178.20 on the day when both players decided to wear them on their jerseys to commemorate Remembrance Day.

His parents are very proud and told the Courier Max had asked to be taken to visit the graves of veterans where he stuck his specially-designed poppies on the headstones.

Max’s mum, Lorraine, said: “At first he thought the money he raised was for himself but we explained it had to go to charity and he was quite happy with that. They were speaking about poppies last year in class at school so he chose to donate the cash Poppy Scotland.

“Now he is looking for other ways to raise money, and is talking about doing something for the homeless at Christmas.”
