An eight-year-old girl was left injured after being set upon by two Rottweiler dogs in Irlam.
The attack happened outside Tesco Express on Liverpool Road on Thursday.
Thankfully, police say her injuries were not serious and the dogs have been seized “for the foreseeable future”.
They will be kept in kennels until the court hearing and then cared for by professional dog handlers.
It is hoped they will be trained and rehabilitated before being rehomed.
Inspector Beverley Cowan, part of the policing team for Irlam, described the incident as “tragic”.
In a post, she said: “Good afternoon everyone,
“Some of you may have heard that an eight-year-old girl was attacked by two Rottweiler dogs yesterday outside Tesco Express on Liverpool Road, Irlam.
“Thankfully her injuries were not serious and we have no taken control of the dogs for the foreseeable future.
“There has been a lack of control by their female owner that has caused some frustrations in the community because of perceived lack of police action.
“Unfortunately, with dog on dog attacks the law is quite limited, as the owner of a mini Schnauzer and a dog lover, this really bothers me.
“It’s tragic that the little girl was attacked but at least there won’t be any other kids attacked this weekend.
“I’m sure some of you will want to know what will happen to the dogs.
“They will be kept in kennels into the court hearing.
“They will be looked after by professional dog handlers, trained and hopefully rehabilitated then rehomed.
“You can enjoy your walks again!”
