An eight-year-old boy has been found safe and well after he disappeared on his walk to school on Wednesday morning, prompting a police investigation and widespread appeal for witnesses.

Connor Beck left his home in Glebe Crescent, in the village of Lochmaben, which lies eight miles north-east of Dumfries, at about 9.20am on Wednesday.

The boy was heading for Lochmaben primary school but failed to arrive.

Family and friends had been searching for Connor since he was reported missing, and Police Scotland thanked everyone for their assistance.

Connor’s father David had told ITV Borders that his son’s disappearance was completely out of character and had appealed to the boy to come home, adding: “You’re not in trouble.”
