Eight-year-old boy and woman killed in head-on collision with pickup truck

Two people, including an eight-year-old boy, have died following a head-on collision with a pickup truck.

West Mercia Police said the crash happened at around 3.30pm on Tuesday on the A458 south in Shrewsbury.

A 51-year-old woman died at the scene of the collision between a red Honda CR-V and the gold Toyota Hilux, while the eight-year-old boy was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where he later died.

The road, between Cressage and Harley Bank, was closed while officers from West Mercia Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

Police said two men also suffered serious injuries, with one being taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the other to Stoke University Hospital.

The force has urged any witnesses to the incident or anyone who saw the vehicles driving in the area around that time to contact them, including anyone with dashcam footage.
