Eight ways to enjoy the last of the summer sun in London: From rooftop cinemas to BBQ pop-ups

The bank holiday may be a memory but it is not too late to supercharge your summer. A season of open-air cinemas, sport extravangazas and picnics in the park is drawing to its finale. Here is how to go out on a high...

If you haven’t found your way to a rooftop yet (what have you been doing?), hurry up and charge the last of the summer wine glasses to this ephemeral curtain call. Where first? Frank’s Café, the panoptic Peckham car-park-come-bar, is serving sundowners until September 22.

At the other end of the East London line, Queen of Hoxton’s Lucha Libre-themed Mexican rooftop is keeping a summer of tacos and tequilas thriving until October. For curling, bowling and crazy gold, Social Fun and Games Club at Roof East continues until September 29.

If you’d rather take in the capital’s top storeys at speed, the Zip Now London zipwire in Archbishop’s Park, Lambeth, is open until September 15. Or to laze away these last weeks, Jimmy Garcia’s BBQ Club pop-up on the South Bank pairs fine food with a prized “Patch & Picnic” area, a series of grass spaces along the riverbank that are just perfect for a relaxing summer afternoon until September 29.

In Paddington, pop-up Pergola has a similar shelf life, meaning you have plenty of time to pluck grub from kebab connoisseurs Babek Brothers, An Choi (a new outfit from Salvation in Noodles) and Smash Patty (from Patty & Bun).

Not entertained? The Rooftop Cinema Club continues its after-dark screenings on deckchairs until mid-September. You have until the end of the month to track down one of Luna cinema’s roving jumbo screens, showing Hook and A Star is Born at spots from Fulham Palace (September 19) to Brockwell Lido (September 26).

If you’ve read this far, what are you still doing here? Go enjoy the sun.
