Eight vehicles involved in huge crash on M77 motorway

At least eight vehicles were involved in a huge crash on the M77 motorway this morning, police have confirmed.

Commuters have been thrown into rush-hour chaos by the incident, which took place at junction 8, near Fenwick, shortly before 7am this morning.

One of the two northbound lanes have been closed, leading to significant tailbacks on the motorway.

It's understood no serious injuries have been sustained as a result of the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "We were called at around 6.45am this morning to the M77 junction 8 nortbound, near Fenwick.

"It looks like there were eight to nine vehicles involved.

"It doesn't look like there's any serious injuries."

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed one person was taken to hospital following the crash:

"We received a call today at 0650 hours to attend a road traffic collision on the M77. We dispatched an ambulance crew and transferred one patient to Crosshouse Hospital.”

"It looks like most of the vehicles have now been moved to the side."

Traffic Scotland earlier Tweeted shortly after 7am: "M77 RTC N/B lane 2 (of 2) blocked at J6 due to an RTC Very slow traffic tailing back towards J8".

An update issued shortly before 8am states lane two of two remains closed at junction 6, with emergency services at the scene.
