Eight-strong gang pull knife out on man before robbing his motorbike

Police have issued an appeal after a gang robbed a motorbike at knifepoint in Stockport.

The rider - a 35-year-old man - was approached by an eight-strong gang of men on Dialstone Lane in Offerton.

The thugs forced him off his motorbike and rode it away, police said.

Emergency services were called and there were no serious injuries.

Enquiries are ongoing, GMP said, and officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident - just before 10pm on October 11 - to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Moyles, from GMP's Stockport district, said: "We know there is some concern in the community around the issue of moped robberies in Stockport at the moment.

"We are working to address this by bringing in additional resources and increasing police presence in hotspot locations.

"But we can't do it alone - I want to encourage anyone who may have seen anything, or have any information no matter how small, to come forward and share it with us. If you say something, we can do something.

"You can get in touch via LiveChat on our website www.gmp.police.uk or call 101 quoting log number 3213 of 11/10/21.

"Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. Thank you."

This comes after police said last month and so far this month, there have been "multiple" reports of people in Stockport being robbed by groups of by men wearing balaclavas.

They are also often carrying weapons.

Previously, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that according to many of the reports the group have either been driving erratically or have threatened and stolen a moped from the victim.

On other occasions, they have demanded the victim hand over personal property, including wallets and phones.

In an update issued on Facebook, local officers said a full investigation is currently underway into these robberies and so far five arrests have been made in connection with the incidents.
