NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Eight passengers were injured when a passenger van taking them to make merit at a temple in a northern province plunged into a ditch dividing a road after its front left tyre burst in Sida district in the early hours of Saturday.

The van was carrying four men and four women from eastern Trat province to make merit at a temple in Phen district of Udon Thani province, said Pol Capt Suthep Namklang, deputy investigation chief at Sida police station, who was reported at around 3.15am on Saturday.

Van driver Pramuan Chaisiri, who escaped unhurt, told police that when the van arrived at Mittraphap Road in tambon Phon Thong of Nakhon Ratchasima, the front left tyre suddenly burst.

The driver said he lost control of the van, causing his vehicle to plunge into a ditch dividing the road and hit an electric light pole. The force of the crash injured all passengers and they were rushed to Sida Hospital.

Police were investigating.
