A staycation at one of Hong Kong’s five-star hotels is all well and good if your workplace hasn’t been hit by slower sales, pay cuts and furloughs. For those who have been affected, or who are being more prudent during the pandemic, the good news is there are plenty of charming getaways among the city’s smaller boutique inns and lodgings.
So lower your luxury expectations and consider these overnight stays, all of which are under HK$1,000 (US$130) a night.
The Luxe Manor, 39 Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
This quirky Kowloon hotel is offering a Super Savers deal with a late checkout, at 2pm (subject to availability), and a 15 per cent discount on all food and beverages. The price may vary slightly depending on the date but, until the end of September, all Premier and Superior rooms, even with breakfast, are priced at less than HK$1,000. If you strip out breakfast, some rooms cost less than HK$600.

The rooms at Page148 have fantastic floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the Kowloon Cricket Club and the Gun Club Hill Barracks – formerly used by the British Army during colonial rule and now a People’s Liberation Army base.

A “Sunset Signature” package for HK$688 (available until September 30), includes a stay in a Signature Greenery room, with in-room “make your own coffee sangria” welcome drinks plus two sunset tea sets served in-room. You also get a 6pm checkout.
Novotel Hong Kong Century, 238 Jaffe Road, Wan Chai
The Hong Kong Island-based Novotel’s Cheesy Seafood Staycation is a budget extravaganza with a room upgrade, 2pm checkout, complimentary mini bar and breakfast (for Sunday to Thursday check-ins).
As the name suggests, the main attraction is the dinner (in-room if dining restrictions apply). Cheeses including Cheddar, Gruyère, Gorgonzola and mozzarella are mixed and cooked in a shake bag with a Boston lobster, abalone, crab leg, blue mussel, sea whelk, tiger prawn and more.
There’s also salad, corn, bread, a baked scallop Kilpatrick and a complimentary bottle of wine.
