Eight of Derry's hidden gems that you won't want to miss

When visiting the city of Derry it's immediately noticeable that the city is full of amazing landmarks and unique, independent businesses.

And if you don't know where you're going, it's very easy to miss them!

With that in mind, here's our guide to hidden gems in the city centre that are not to be missed:

This local business is ideal for those walking the iconic city walls. Situated in Artillery Street, it is a stone throw away from the heart of the city centre.

However, visitors will note the peacefulness of the Walled City Gifts & Coffee, while they enjoy an outdoor coffee and a browse at local crafts and charming gifts.

Only around the corner on London St sits SmartSwag. This business offers a range of products such as art, framed prints, up cycled furniture, homeware, clothing, jewellery and souvenirs.

They offer customers original locally designed and crafted products that you won't find on the high street. Custom-made pieces can be made to suit individual needs.

A must visit for a stand-out piece in your home, or a souvenir to remember the city by.

Neighbours with SmartSwag, The Hidden City Cafe is a warm, friendly spot specialising in vegan and vegetarian options.

While not strictly vegan or vegetarian and offering chicken and seafood options, the cafe caters to all. Visitors can sit back, relax and enjoy the colourful front faces of the buildings opposite. It is an incredibly welcoming spot for all who come in the door.

St. Augustine's Church is situated neo-Gothic church built in 1872. It is a key into Derry history as it is the site of St. Columba's/Colmcille monastery, founded 546AD. St. Augustine's is one of the prettiest sights of Derry and can be accessed via a walk on the city walls. With its old graves and miniature look, St. Augustine's is a delight to any visitor to the city.

In its entirety, the Craft Village is not to be missed by any visitor to the city.

The Cottage Craft Gallery and Coffee Shop is surrounded by multitudes of more independent businesses worthy of a visit. The cottage ties the craft village together perfectly, with its classic thatched roof and outdoor seating it draws you in to explore the rest of the area.

Here you can enjoy freshly baked produce, hot food (vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available) and browse a selection of handmade, local products.

This hidden gem sits beside the city's Guildhall. It is situated on the first floor of the building and boasts the best in Irish crafts, art & gift-ware.

Guaranteed to find a unique item, visitors can enjoy a coffee and homemade cake. The shop is dog-friendly so even the four-legged visitors of the city can enjoy the art and gifts available.

Children in Crossfire and Derry hero Richard Moore has recently been featured on a gable wall mural of himself and the Dalai Lama. The mural was done by local artists UV Arts C.I.C., the people behind the famous Derry Girls mural.

The 'Derry Lama' mural was recently featured on Joanna Lumley's 'Home Sweet Home' and is a must-see for visitors to the city. It is a burst of colour and a constant reminder of all that is good in the world.

Established in Derry's walled city since 1994, The Gift Box has provided decades of unique gifts for 'Derry wans' or those who fall in love with the city when they visit. Alongside Derry-themed gifts visitors can browse at clothes, crafts and homeware. A place where you could find something for everyone in the family.
