Eight lockdown rules England will face again if Boris Johnson announces circuit breaker

New restrictions are unlikely to stop Christmas celebrations this week but Boris Johnson has urged caution amid speculation further measures will be needed to halt the spread of the Omicron variant.

The Prime Minister and his government are reportedly considering a tightening of rules with a return to so-called Step 2 restrictions in England.

Step 2 was first established in April 2021 as part of the roadmap out of lockdown. Now it is being considered as an option again as the UK takes baby steps towards tougher measures amid rising Omicron cases.

These are just some of the measures that could come make a return, BirminghamLive reports.

Work from home if you can

Brits will likely continue to be urged to work from home where possible.

No socialising indoors

Mixing may only be permitted outdoors - which includes gardens - in groups of six people or two households.

Hairdressers and beauty salons open

Hairdressers and beauty salons should still be able to open with strict anti-Covid safeguards.

Funerals and weddings

While funerals can continue with up to 30 mourners, the number of people able to attend weddings, receptions and commemorative events such as wakes will rise to 15.

Indoor entertainment closed

There'll be no Spider-Man: Far From Home from December 27 or 28 onwards, if step two happens.

Cinemas and theatres will have to close, according to reports.

A string of West End productions and live events have had to cancel performances due to cast and crew testing positive for Covid-1 9 while bookings for the beginning of 2022 are far below expectations.

Hospitality restrictions

Pubs and restaurants must serve people outdoors - causing chaos given the current temperatures and weather conditions.

No holidays

People will be implored to only travel abroad for key reasons, like work or other urgent circumstances.

Holidays will be a strict no no.

In fact, first time around, the government was threatening £5k fines for tourists flouting this rule.

Gyms

Gyms can open, but steam rooms and saunas will likely stay closed.
