Tragedy struck the Serbian town of Novi Sad on Friday when the roof of a railway station collapsed, resulting in the loss of eight lives and leaving over 30 individuals injured, as reported by the country's interior minister. The incident also saw two survivors rescued from under the rubble, with one of them in a serious condition and currently receiving medical care.
Efforts to rescue two more individuals trapped beneath the debris are ongoing, with nearly 80 rescuers working tirelessly at the scene. The rescue operation, which commenced promptly following an emergency call, is anticipated to continue for several more hours.

Expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, Serbia's Prime Minister, Milos Vucevic, acknowledged the swift response of the first responders and assured that those accountable for the collapse would be held responsible.
Reports indicate that the railway station's roof underwent renovations in 2021, followed by additional work in the subsequent months, culminating in its official reopening on July 5 of this year.
