Eight flights from Newcastle Airport diverted following fuel supply issues

Bosses say there was 'limited disruption' at Newcastle Airport on Monday morning following refuelling issues.

Newcastle Airport confirmed they experienced an issue with fuel delivery to airlines which resulted in eight aircraft deciding to refuel en route to their destination. The fuel was delivered mid-morning and the issue was resolved quickly.

The airport continued to say they do not expect any further issues to arise. It also confirmed that no flights were cancelled and flights continue to operate as normal.

Airports across the UK have seen lengthy queues in the last week as half-term travel coincided with flight cancellations. Staff shortages have been blamed for the delays at airports. Newcastle has not been badly affected by the recent disruption.

Thousands of airline passengers faced disruption on Tuesday as widespread flight cancellations continued. EasyJet cancelled at least 35 flights, with Gatwick the worst affected airport.

Hungarian carrier Wizz Air axed at least seven flights due to serve UK airports. British Airways cancelled 124 Heathrow flights, although the airline said affected passengers were given advance notice.

A spokesperson for Newcastle Airport said: “Due to temporary issues with the supply of aviation fuel to a number of airlines, we experienced some limited disruption to flights from Newcastle Airport yesterday morning.

"Each airline has a contract with a fuel supplier, who then contract fuel deliveries to haulage companies. We worked with all parties to minimise the impact of this disruption and was resolved quickly.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
