Eight dogs searching for loving homes in Manchester in time for Christmas

Eight adorable dogs are searching for new homes in Manchester in time for Christmas.

The crossbreeds have found themselves in kennels through no fault of their own - but hope to secure a new home before the year's end.

The Kennel Clubs estimated there to be 12 million dogs in the UK, with around 75 per cent of them being pedigree - meaning that both parents are of the same breed.

However, there others - known as crossbreeds, mongrels, or affectionately named ‘Heinz 57' - could be amalgamations of many different breeds.

Our sister site Teamdogs has pulled together eight crossbreed who are looking to start their new life this Christmas. However, those interested in rehoming a dog during the festive season should be reminded that a dog is for life, not just for Christmas.

Name: Barry

Age: Two-years- old

Sex: Male

Breed: American Bulldog Cross

Likes: Playing the goofball and playing rough and tumble games

Dislikes: Being left alone for long periods of time

Additional Info: Barry is described as Dog Trust Manchester’s ‘resident hunk’, with bags of personality, and energy to match.

Barry can be over the top and will need patient owners that have experience with strong dogs, experience with larger bull breeds is essential, as well as home with minimal leaving hours as he can get anxious when left alone.

However he is a ‘big goofball’ that will make a great addition to the right home, he just needs adopters patient enough to help him settle, and keep up his ongoing training.

Name: Dobby

Age: Three-years-old

Sex: Male

Breed: Lurcher Cross

Likes: Saying hello to his favourite humans, and getting plenty of treats

Dislikes: Larger male dogs invading his personal space

Additional Info: Dobby is a great character around the rescue centre, and loves to get a fuss and a cuddle from his favourite humans.

He can be worried by larger, male dogs and prefers the company of smaller dogs who can be less intimidating, so for this reason he will need to be the only pet in the home.

However he can live with children over the age of 16, and would need an active home where he can go on plenty of adventures with his new family, who will help work on his confidence.

Name: Summer

Age: Two-years-old

Sex: Female

Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Likes: Playing with toys and meeting new dogs

Dislikes: Initially meeting new people

Additional Info: Summer came to the rescue as a stray, and can initially be nervous around new people, but once she’s comfortable she has a lot of love to give.

She would need to meet potential adopters a few times to get acclimatised, but would be ‘a bundle of fun’ in the right home.

Although she can keep herself entertained with her toys, she also loves meeting new dogs, and wants nothing more than making new friends to have fun with.

Name: Daisie

Age: One-years-old

Sex: Female

Breed: Crossbreed

Likes: Going on walks and meeting new dogs

Dislikes: Not having the opportunity to enjoy her own space

Additional Info: Daisie came to the shelter as her owner could no longer look after her, and for that reason she was very nervous when she first arrived.

She has come out of her shell since, and is a lively girl who loves going on walks and meeting new dogs.

However Daisie has some behavioural issues which adopters will need to work on, and for this reason will need to be the only dog in an adult-only home.

Name: Woody

Age: Nine-months-old

Sex: Male

Breed: Malinois and English Bull Terrier Cross

Likes: Going on long adventures and exploring the outdoors

Dislikes: Meeting dogs who can’t match his energy level

Additional Info: Woody is an exuberant puppy, who is looking for an active home to match his energy levels.

He can be a shy boy at first around humans and dogs, as he doesn’t know how to act and can be too full on. However, he likes to meet new dogs but would need to be the only dog in the home.

He is a very playful boy who needs plenty of exercise, and would benefit a garden where he can run around and chase toys or play a game of tuggy

Name: Lenny

Age: One-years-old

Sex: Male

Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross

Likes: Playing games, especially fetch

Dislikes: Meeting men initially, as they can seem intimidating at first

Additional Info: Lenny is a playful bouncy boy who loves long walks, playing with his favourite toys, and is always game for a new adventure.

He can be a little shy when first meeting people, and would need to be rehomed to a family with at least one female, as he can sometimes be intimidated by men at first.

However, once he gets to know his new family he is very affectionate, and loves some fuss and attention.

Name: Peanut

Age: Three-years-old

Sex: Female

Breed: Crossbreed

Likes: Long adventures, and getting lots of fuss and attention

Dislikes: Too much overstimulation, and strange new dogs

Additional Info: Peanut is described as ‘a super lively girl who loves getting loads of fuss and attention from the people she knows’ who needs a very active home to keep up with her energy levels.

She is unfortunately under socialised around dogs and can get frustrated easily when she sees them, so for this reason she will need walks to be in low dog populated areas, and needs to be the only pet in the home.

She has managed to walk nicely alongside some dogs but will need adopters to be comfortable continuing her dog socialising.

Peanut loves long adventures and is happy on car journeys, so she would be perfect for an active adult-only home where she can enjoy her life to the fullest.

Name: Nacho

Age: Four-years-old

Sex: Male

Breed: Border Collie Cross

Likes: Playing games of tuggy and tossing his soft toys in the air

Dislikes: Strangers, cyclists and traffic

Additional Info: Cheeky chappie Nacho is looking for a calm and patient home to take him in, and give him time to settle.

Nacho will take quite some time to get to know you and trust you, but once he does, he shows his loving, mischievous side and enjoys sitting beside you for a fuss and some ear scratches and will even put his paws on your shoulders for a big bear hug.

He is still quite overwhelmed by new experiences, including meeting new dogs and walking in high stimulus areas, so he will need a quiet adult-only home where he can find his feet, and improve his confidence.
