
At least eight people have been killed after a hot-air balloon crashed in Brazil, according to the governor of Santa Catarina state.
Jorginho Mello said on X that 21 passengers had been on board the balloon when it crashed on Saturday.
The tourism balloon caught fire during the flight in early morning hours, crashing in the city of Praia Grande, according to the state fire department.
Mr Mello said that there were 13 survivors and that rescue workers were at the scene.
Thirteen survivors were transported to nearby hospitals, according to the fire department.
Mr Mello wrote: “Accident update: 21 people on board - 8 fatalities, 13 survivors. Our teams continue to provide all necessary support to families and victims. We continue to monitor the situation.”
