Eight Championship clubs return positive COVID-19 tests with players and staff told to isolate

Eight Championship clubs have seen staff members test positive for coronavirus after the EFL confirmed that a total of ten tests across the division have returned positive.

1058 tests in total were carried out with 1048 reading negative.

However, the ten positive tests from a wide range of clubs across the division has shown a big increase on the first round of testing, only a week ago, in which there were only two positive results.

The news comes just hours after the Premier League revealed that, despite their own wide testing programme, zero players or staff in the top flight had tested positive.

The EFL statement read: "Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1058 players and Club staff from the 24 Championship Clubs were tested over the course of Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, with 10 individuals testing positive from eight Clubs.

"Those players or Club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities."

It is not known if Nottingham Forest have seen any players test positive.

Those ten individuals will now self isolate for 14 days.
