Eight arrests as thousands gather in Glasgow for city's biggest Orange Order march

Police have revealed eight people were arrested as thousands gathered in Glasgow for a huge Orange parade.

Around 5000 people lined the streets as dozens of marching bands from Orange lodges across Scotland descended on the city.

The Orange Order marchers set off from different parts of the city and headed for a gathering at Glasgow Green with traffic restrictions placed on 32 city streets during the parade.

Last year there were four arrests when the march was held.

After this year's event Superintendent Graham McInarlin of Police Scotland said: “There were eight arrests, all for minor public order offences including two sectarian breaches of the peace.

“Approximately 4,000 took part in march with around 4,000 to 5,000 followers.

“All left Glasgow Green at approximately 2pm.”
