Eiffel Tower closed after man CLIMBS up 1,000ft monument

Paris' Eiffel Tower has been closed until further notice after someone was spotted climbing up it.

A shocking photograph shows a person scaling the iconic building from the outside.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, has now been arrested, according to reports.

Police earlier arrived at the scene and were reportedly negotiating with him.

Initial reports suggested he had climbed more than 300m up the landmark.

The official Eiffel Tower Twitter account said: "The tourEiffel is currently closed until further notice.

"To avoid too long a wait, we advise our visitors to postpone their visit."

The tourist attraction is currently cordoned off amid the incident which reportedly began at about 2.15pm local time.

According to RT, the man began his ascent at the second level which is thought to be around 149m high.

People were seen evacuating the building and crowds were standing around beside security guards.
