Eifel Grand Prix first practice cancelled as Mick Schumacher F1 debut is scrapped

Mick Schumacher has been denied his Formula 1 audition during Friday's first practice after bad weather wrote off the session.

Schumacher was due to make his F1 practice debut with Alfa Romeo in the first session of the weekend at the Nurburgring, but fog in the area meant the medical helicopter was unable to fly.

According to Sky Sports, the 21-year-old's debut could now be moved to another race on the calendar because Alfa Romeo do not plan to run him in FP2 later on Friday.

FIA race director Michael Masi said: "It is a bit challenging. Obviously with the fog that's come in the medical helicopter is not able to take off and fly to the hospital. The distance by road is far too far should something occur. We've also advised teams we will give them a 10-minute warning should we be able to open pit exit and for the session to take place.

"It's impossible to predict. The region we're in is not dissimilar to Austria earlier in the year. The fog has come in and it's being going up slightly, but then coming down more dramatically. From an FIA perspective, the safety of all the participants going out is paramount and that is not something we would compromise."
