EICC appoints new finance director as it tackles major events industry challenges

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre has appointed a new finance director as it seeks to combat major challenges facing the events industry.

Stuart Bone takes up the role with the EICC at a very challenging time for the events industry.

He moves there from a similar role at CMS Window Systems.

Bone previously worked with EICC CEO Marshall Dallas during a seven-year stint as Nuffield Heath's finance manager.

The EICC, which marks its 25 anniversary later this month is set to announce its 2019 annual results.

Dallas said: “Stuart joins our team as we face, in common with the rest of the UK business events industry, the most challenging time in recent history.

“At the same time, we remain confident about a phased in return of business events over time and we know we will be a stronger business when we come out of Covid.

“Having Stuart on board is a great fit and we look forward to his contributions going forward.”

Stuart Bone said he was delighted to be joining the EICC which “has been on a sustainable growth trajectory over the last five years having grown revenues in the corporate and international association markets and whilst this is a challenging time for the events industry, I’m energised to help the EICC team through this difficult period.

“We hope to welcome business events back to our venue in the near future.”

In May, the EICC launched a new hybrid events model,Make it Edinburgh Live, which was created to enable the venue team to run conferences and events entirely online or via a combination of online and in situ.

The EICC will in future also operate a hotel in the £350m Haymarket Edinburgh development.

The development which will also contain a hotel school is being funded by M&G Real Estate and will be developed by the QMile Group

This week Marshall Dallas won the Small to Medium Business director awards at the IOD Scotland Director of the Year awards.

The judging panel said it was “impressed with Marshall’s commitment to staff and team development”.
