Egyptian writer Yousry El-Gendy

Egyptian writer Yousry El-Gendy died at 80 years of age in Egypt on Wednesday.

Gendy is considered a pioneer of political theater and popular folk dramas. He had received several awards during his long career.

A versatile writer with a career that spanned many decades, Gendy wrote for screenplays, TV scripts, and the radio.

He also held several management positions, including director of the El Samer Theater in Cairo in 1974 and advisor to the director-general Arts Authority until he retired on February 5, 2002.

Gendy was born on February 5, 1942, in the Damietta Governorate, and several prominent Egyptian figures have publicly mourned his death and celebrated his legacy.
