
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed Tuesday on the strong Egyptian-US ties and the importance of enhancing cooperation between Cairo and Washington in the field of counter-terrorism, security and intelligence cooperation.
The President’s comments came during a meeting he held with US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats in the presence of head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service Gen. Abbas Kamel.
Sisi welcomed the US official and asked to convey his regards to President Donald Trump.
Coats and Sisi discussed ways to reach political compromises in the region’s current crises, according to a statement released by the Egyptian presidency.
They tackled means to boost security and intelligence cooperation between Washington and Cairo in countering terrorism and extremism.
The statement added that Sisi and Coats also exchanged views on development on a number of regional issues.
Coats emphasized Washington’s keenness for continuous coordination with Cairo, especially over the situation in the Middle East.
In the same context, Sisi also held talks Tuesday with Sudanese Defense Minister Awad Mohammed bin Auf over military cooperation, border control, as well as combating organized crime, terrorism and irregular migration.
A statement by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said Sisi praised the distinguished Egyptian-Sudanese relations and the deep historical ties between the two countries.
The President also stressed the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region and the African continent.
For his part, the Sudanese defense minister conveyed to Sisi the greetings of President Omar al-Bashir, stressing the strong relations between the two countries and Sudan's keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Egypt in all fields, especially in security and militarily.
They held the meeting on the sidelines of Egypt's first defense expo EDEX 2018, which kicked off on Monday.
