Several Egyptian newspapers were not published yesterday in protest against a draft press law which journalists claim will restrict press freedom. Though the proposed law eliminates imprisonment as a penalty for some media offences, it continues to allow judges to impose jail terms in many others, such as allegations of financial corruption by officials or state employees. A demonstration by journalists in central Cairo passed off peacefully. (Via reuters.com)
