Egypt warned on Friday its citizens against falling victim to scams that promise employment abroad.
The foreign ministry urged in a statement people to resort to official channels to seek jobs abroad, saying procedures should take place through the country’s labor ministry.
The warning was made after the ministry received several complaints by Egyptians abroad, who had fallen victim to scams.
The ministry warned the people to exercise caution and against falling for false promises made by travel agencies that lure clients with job opportunities in foreign countries.
The victims end up stranded in the new country where they could end up violating their residency conditions, which will incur legal prosecution by foreign authorities, it added.
