Egypt Unemployment Drops to 7.4%

Unemployment in Egypt dropped to 7.4% in 2021, a 0.5% improvement from 2020, revealed the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics on Saturday.

Unemployment between youths aged 15 to 29 remained unchanged at 15% of the workforce in that category. Unemployment among males reached 10.8% and 35.9% among females.

Unemployment among people aged 15 to 19 reached 12%, a rise from 11.8% in 2020. Unemployment among people aged 20 to 24 reached 19.7%, a rise from 19.6%. It stood at 12.1% among people aged 25 to 20, compared to 12.5% in 2020.

The workforce boasted 29.358 million workers in 2021, 24.296 million were male. In 2020, the figure stood at 28.458 million, with males making up 23.684 million. The change marks a 3.2% increase.

Workers in urban areas reached 13.109 million, and 16.249 million in rural areas.

Overall unemployment stood at 2.170 million in 2021, covering 1.359 million males and 811,000 females. The figure is an improvement from 2.259 million unemployed people in 2020.

Male unemployment stood at 5.6% in 2021, compared to 6% in 2020. Among females it stood at 16% in 2021, compared to 17.7% the year earlier.
