Egypt’s Finance Minister Mohamed Maait called for maximizing cooperation efforts and joint work with Jordan to overcome obstacles and revitalize intra-trade movement.

A press statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Finance said that Maait reviewed on Wednesday the results of the meetings between the head of the Customs Authority, Al-Shahat Ghaturi, and his Jordanian counterpart.

Ghaturi said that the two sides agreed on the pre-registration of ACI shipments, especially when transiting to other countries, as well as the collection of customs and other services, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity.

He noted that an electronic link was being established between Nuweiba Customs in Egypt and Aqaba Customs in Jordan, which would help facilitate trade exchange of goods and merchandise.

The head of the Egyptian Customs Authority revealed that two specialized laboratories would be operating in the port of Nuweiba, one of which would be affiliated with the General Organization for Export and Import Control before the end of August, while the other with the Food Safety Authority, with the aim to speed up the examination of goods and merchandise ahead of customs release.

According to the statement, Ghaturi stressed his keenness to follow up on the results of the meetings of the joint customs committees with various countries of the world, including Jordan, “in a manner that contributes to strengthening customs cooperation… especially in light of the strong political will to increase the volume of trade exchange and deepen joint economic cooperation in the interest of the two brotherly peoples.”
