Egypt said Thursday it was preparing a special flight to evacuate its citizens from the Chinese central city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, and would quarantine them for 14 days on their return home.

Egyptair will suspend all flights to and from mainland China starting on Saturday due to the coronavirus outbreak, the civil aviation ministry said in a statement.

Flights from and to Hangzhou will be suspended on Saturday followed by flights to and from Beijing and Guangzhou on Feb.4 until further notice, the statement said.

The last Chinese tourist group in Egypt will leave on Feb. 4, it added.

Several countries have sent chartered planes to Wuhan to evacuate hundreds of citizens.

China has reported 170 deaths and at least 7,800 infections have been confirmed worldwide from the virus that emerged last month in Wuhan. Sports, transport and cultural events have been cancelled across the country and over 50 million people are under a government lockdown in central China.
