
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with his Senegalese counterpart, Macky Sall in Dakar on Tuesday. The bilateral talks witnessed the signing of two MoUs for cooperation in the fields of media and diplomatic consultation.
“The Senegalese president praised the Egyptian role in defending African issues on the international scene and tackling the problems that concern the peoples of the continent, especially those related to peace, security and development,” said Ambassador Bassam Radi, spokesman for the Egyptian presidency.
Sisi, for his part, underlined “brotherly relations that bind Egypt to Senegal in various aspects, especially on the political, cultural and religious levels, in addition to the converging visions towards international and regional issues.”
He also stressed Egypt’s keenness to continue political consultations with Senegal on various peace and security issues in the Dark Continent, according to Radi.
The meeting touched on the means to increase cooperation between Egypt and Senegal in combating terrorism and extremist thought on the African continent to help achieve the security and stability required for development, particularly in the Sahel and West Africa regions, in terms of security and information exchange.
In a joint press conference following the meeting, the Senegalese president affirmed that Egypt “occupies a great position in Africa,” emphasizing “a good historical relationship between the two countries.”
Sisi, in turn, said that he agreed with his Senegalese counterpart to work on promoting stability and security in Africa, adding that he has invited Sall to visit Cairo.
