Vaccination centers across Egypt witnessed this week a high turnout, health authorities confirmed.

The significant turnout came as the country registered 131 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 285,831.

In a statement, spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said eight patients have died from the virus, raising the toll to 16,647.

As many as 439 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 235,317, he added.

Meanwhile, presidential advisor for health affairs Mohamed Awad Tageldin said that the Health Ministry is providing temporary medical certificates for Egyptians and foreigners that receive their doses in the country.

In an interview with a local TV channel, he said the high turnout at vaccination centers reflects the people’s growing awareness about the importance of receiving the shot.

Egypt has imported the Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines and set up 539 inoculation centers across the country.
