Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi directed the government on Thursday to harness all its potential and provide all possible assistance to support the Libyan people.

Sisi was briefed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on his recent visit to Libya.

Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said Sisi ordered that all possible support be provided to the Libyans and to increase opportunities of cooperation between their countries to improve their economy, security and stability.

He also stressed the need to support the political roadmap in Libya that should culminate in elections in December.

Madbouly briefed Sisi on the discussions he held with Libyan officials, including the agreement over reopening Egypt’s diplomatic missions in Tripoli and Benghazi at the nearest possible time.

He also relayed Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh’s request for Cairo to take the necessary immediate measures to allow Egyptian laborers to return to Libya.

He also requested that the necessary preparations be taken with Egyptian companies, especially energy, transport and housing firms, to carry out various projects that should be proposed in Libya soon.

Libya and Egypt entered a new phase of cooperation after Madbouly visited Tripoli at the head of a high-ranking delegation on Tuesday.

The two sides signed a number of memorandums including one on the resumption of civilian flights between the two countries, after six years of suspension.

The memorandums also include deals to consolidate the relations between the two countries in transportation, infrastructure, health, electricity and communications.

In Tripoli, Madbouly discussed with Dbeibeh regional and international issues of common interest, and emphasized the importance of intensifying coordination and political consultations on various issues.

Last month, Sisi had discussed with the head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, prospects for enhanced cooperation between their countries.
