Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received on Thursday a telephone call from his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk-yeol.

The two leaders discussed the latest regional and international developments, and the bilateral cooperation between the countries at the economic and investment levels.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest.

Egyptian presidency spokesperson, Bassam Rady, said the talks between the two leaders reflect the “fraternal ties between Egypt and South Korea amid successful Korean investment models in Egypt in many fields.”

The talks have also tackled cooperation on climate change issues ahead of Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2022 in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

Rady said that Sisi has underlined his country’s pride in the long-standing close relationship with South Korea which is based on partnership.

He congratulated Yoon on South Korea’s “National Foundation Day,” which is celebrated on Oct.3.

Yoon, for his part, hailed the distinctive relations that bring both countries together and expressed the people of South Korea’s appreciation for Egypt and its ancient civilization.

He stated that South Korea looks forward to strengthening bilateral ties at various levels, particularly at the economic and trade levels, and increasing investments in Egypt which is currently witnessing soaring economic growth and comprehensive development.

In early 2022, both countries agreed to establish an economic and political partnership within an integrated strategic framework for various kinds of cooperation.

In February, Cairo confirmed its cooperation with Seoul in the fields of transport and railways.
