Coptic Orthodox Church spokesperson Boulos Halim has denied that a homemade bomb was found near the Virgin Mary Cathedral, south of Cairo.
News circulated on social media about the bomb is untrue, said Halim in a statement on Friday.
A source also told the state-run MENA news agency that the reports on the bomb are baseless.
Pope Tawadros II attended on Friday the launch of the seventh expatriates conference organized by the Coptic church.
